How to Develop Good Communication Skills

  1. Know what communication really isCommunication is the process of transferring signals/messages between a sender and a receiver through various methods (written words, nonverbal cues, spoken words). It is also the mechanism we use to establish and modify relationships.

  2. 2
Manifest constructive attitudes and beliefs: The attitudes you bring to communication will have a huge impact on the way you compose yourself and interact with others. Choose to be honestpatientoptimisticsincere, respectful, and accepting of others. Be sensitive to other people's feelings, and believe in others' competence.
  3. 3
Make eye contact: Whether you are speaking or listening, looking into the eyes of the person with whom you are conversing can make the interaction more successful. Eye contact conveys interest, and encourages your partner to be interested in you in return. In less intimate settings, when giving a speech or when in front of several people, holding the eyes of different members of your audience can personalize what you are saying and maintain attention.
  4. 4
Be aware of what your body is sayingBody language can say so much more than a mouthful of words. An open stance with arms relaxed at your sides tells anyone around you that you are approachable and open to hearing what they have to say. Arms crossed and shoulders hunched, on the other hand, suggest disinterest in conversation or unwillingness to communicate. Often, communication can be stopped before it starts by body language that tells people you don't want to talk. Appropriate posture and an approachable stance can make even difficult conversations flow more smoothly.
  5. 5
Have courage to say what you thinkBe confident in knowing that you can make worthwhile contributions to conversation. Take time each day to be aware of your opinions and feelings so you can adequately convey them to others. Individuals who are hesitant to speak because they do not feel their input would be worthwhile need not fear; what is important or worthwhile to one person may not be to another and may be more so to someone else. In a world so very big, someone is bound to agree with you, or to open your eyes to an even deeper perspective. The courage to say what you think can afford you the opportunity to learn more than you knew before.
  6. 6
Speak clearly enough to be heard: When you are saying what you think, have the confidence to say it so as to be heard. An appropriate tone and volume can inform listeners that you mean what you say, you have thought about what you are saying, and what you are saying is worth hearing. Using proper inflection helps ensure that your listeners hear exactly what you are saying, and reduces possibilities for misunderstanding.
  7. 7
Practice: Developing advanced communication skills begins with simple interactions. Communication skills can be practiced every day in settings that range from the more social to the more professional. New skills take time to refine, but each time you use your communication skills you open yourself to opportunities and future partnerships.
  8. 8
Develop effective listening skills: Not only should one be able to speak effectively, one must listen to the other person's words and engage in communication on what the other person is speaking about. Avoid the impulse to listen only for the end of their sentence so that you can blurt out the ideas or memories that come to your mind while the other person is speaking.

HR QUESTIONS

1)      Tell me about yourself.
Don’t talk much about your family. Talk about things in which you are much interested in. Try to talk things relating to your resume.
2)      Will you work wherever your work area is? Will your family and partner accept it? If not?
When you are asked about your willingness to travel during an interview, be honest.
There's no point in saying "yes" if you would prefer to be home five nights a week.
It is perfectly acceptable to ask how much travel is involved. That way, you can weigh how much you would need to be on the road and make an educated decision as to whether the amount of travel required fits in with your lifestyle.
What's most important is to get a good understanding of what's involved before you are offered the job, rather than being (unpleasantly) surprised after you have already been hired.
3)      Do you have any questions for me?
Project yourself as if you are much interested in knowing about the organization. Try not to say “no questions sir” in response to this question.
Eg :
                1) When can I get my appointment order sir?
                2) What will be my designation in “OUR” company sir?
4)      Are you flexible in getting adapted to new technologies?
Yes, I have a passion towards keeping myself updated to current technologies and getting to know many things, so I feel I am much flexible enough to get adapted to new technologies.
5)      Tell me about your background.
6)      Tell me about Time Management from your side.
Talk about various activities that you have taken part in parallel to your studies.
7)      Tell me about your family
8)      Tell me about your extra-curricular activities
9)      If we assign you in a team having technology that you don’t know, how will you tackle it (or) if we change to other location, how will you adapt to it?
I am flexible enough and open-minded to learn new things and technologies
10)   How will you improve your communication if we give you job here?
Will communicate with colleagues, with friends and my circle in English and will read newspaper regularly
11)   For what do you want job from Cognizant?
A typical interview question, asked to ensure that you are seriously interested in the job and the company, and to find out how much you know about the company, is "Why do you want to work here?"
The best way to answer this question is, first of all, to be prepared and knowledgeable about the company. Spend some time researching the company (the About Us section of the web site is a good place to start) so you can talk about the benefits of working for this employer.
Compare your goals with objectives of the company and the position, then reiterate why you would be an asset to the employer. Let the interviewer know what you can do for the company, if you get a job offer.
Even though the question is about why you want to work here, you still need to convince the interviewer that hiring you will benefit the company.
12)   Do you want any particular domain or technology to work?
I can adapt to any domain, according to that I will train myself.
13)   Are social networking sites boon or bane? What if our company is about to develop a community for all our company employees in face book? Is it good or bad?
                Answer positively.
What are your strengths? Any real time incidents replicating your strength?

EXPERIENCE OF FRESHERS WHO ATTENDED THE HR ROUND
Job Interview Placement Paper
There Are Mainly Three Rounds:
1. Written
2. Technical Round
3. HR
  • Though i can't make into it but i want to share my experience .
  • Wipro being my first company i was little bit skeptical if i wood be able to clear written or not anywise i sat for it .
  • I found written quite a piece of cake . there were 3 sections
1. English: having active-passive voice questions, similar meaning questions ,a question on phrase.like watt's ’steaing a march ’ means .,one passage was given and based on which we had to answer few questions then few questions on correcting punctuations , few on jumble words tat was pretty much it .

2. Aptitude: there were questions form work-time , ratio proportion , percentage, age, some arrangement like a,b,c,d,e,f sitting in a circle wid some conditions given like c is to the left form a and b is 2 right form d , with this and this being opposite to each other and then which two can’t be together types. sorry i don’t remember the exact situation . like wise few more questions which am not able to recollect.
3.Technical Round: Questions form course. logic gates , correction few c++ codes, few questions form Operating systems .Networking tat is it ! paper was easy but there was only 1 hr so main thing is time management i gave some 30 minutes to English section . so i managed my time in math section i left the tricky questions and solved those which were bit easy then i did technical and came back to Math section there was no negative marking so at the end i marked the remaining questions also .
  • Which were something a round 4 or 5 ! After the written we had pre placement talk in which wipro ppl gave presentation and told us bout the package and their bond etc etc in the meanwhile we got our results also out of 175 . 145 cleared written then we had tech round which started with in some 20 minutes.Tech round was easy for me the interviewer din ask me almost nothing .

  • HE asked me to introduce myself. then he asked bout my family ., and then based on my answers he asked me few more questions he asked me bout my areas of interest . and y i opted them my area of interest was bioinformatics along with operating system which he found real interesting so he asked me few Questions on bioinformatics. like y bioinformatics what it is watts the use etc etc` Then he asked me y am i not going for MS or research . to which i gave a very solid reason like research needs a thorough std of a subject and i know my abilities and i know i can’t do that amount of thorough std then he asked my weakness things i hate bout my college things i like bout my place etc etc with few more Questions .

  • My tech round was over he was pretty impressed with me and gave me the HR form .saying i presented myself really well ! then i filled the HR form and gave my interview pretty much same Questions she asked within half an hr results war out and out of 55 selected in tech they took some 27 HR round is mere luck . but to me tech was also kinna HR for others the same guy asked questions based on areas of interest double linked list circular link list they asked questions based on projects also . tat is it ! though i could’t make into wipro .

  • I thought i should post the whole experience !best of luck to those who r going to sit for it cos luck really matters i have seen people far more intelligent then me not making it to written or tech . just cost the luck was not wid them !

SOME BASIC APTITUDE FORMULAS

Question 1

Can you give a simple formula to find average of sum of squares of first n natural numbers ?

Answer 1

(n+1)(2n+1)/6 can be used to calculate the average of sum of first n natural numbers.

Question 2

Given log x(ab) and log x(a/b) , how you will find log xa

Answer 2

log x(ab) can be written as log x(a) + log x(b) .... equation 1. log x(a/b) can be written as log x(a) - log x(b) ... equation 2.

Solving equation 1 and 2 we will get log x(a) = (log x(ab) + log x(a/b) / 2)

Question 3

Consider a rhombus with diagonals of lengths d1 and d2. What could be its area ?

Answer 3

Area of the rhombus = 1/2(d1 X d2)

Question 4

Quick Answer Required ; Can you quickly tell the ratio of the volume of a cylinder of height h to that of another cylinder of unit height but with same radius.

Answer 4

Height h is the answer. Reason. Volume V1 of cylinder of height h and radius r, V1 = ∏r2h Volume V2 of another cylinder of unit height of same radius r, V2 = ∏r2 (by substituting 1 for h) Now answer is, V1/V2 = h

QUERY BASED QUESTIONS

Interview Question 1

Can you quickly suggest a SQL query that can remove duplicate rows from a table ?

Answer 1

Delete from table a where rowid > ( select min(rowid) from table b where a.key = b.key)
(You can think of more ways to do the same task.)

Preparing For An Interview With Most Commonly Asked Questions

How to prepare for Interview ?
Question : Tell /Describe about yourself ( you will be asked this 90% )
Answer : Don't recite your resume. Tell about your education, experience, projects worked ,passion etc.,Make sure you complete this within 2-3mins.
Q: Why should we hire you into our organization
A : This would be perfect time to tell about your strengths, achievements & assets. Compare your profile with the job role & justify that you will be a best fit for the job. Answers like ‘This is a best company’ , ‘I want a job in this field’ wont impress the interviewer.posted at www.bankexamsindia.com
Q : What are your strengths & weakness ?
A: Again this is also a commonly asked question to test how much you know of yourself.Make sure the Strengths you say have some relation to the job you applied.’I am very good in english’ can be said as ‘I have good communication skills’ ,
Weakness - ‘I don't have any weakness’ means you are not ready to talk about it.Similarly don't say something like, ‘Im short tempered & get angry very soon’ – It gives an impression that you are not fit to work in group.Say something which does not affect the working & also describe about the steps taken to overcome that.
Q: Where do you see yourself after 5 years ?
A: This question would be asked to check how much you know about the career path.
‘After 5 years,I want to be in your seat’ wont work in any case.Think realistically, understand the growth opportunities of that job & put it across to them.
Q : Why are you shifting from your current employer/company (for experienced people)
A : This would be a tricky question & you have to answer by choosing proper words.Give the real reason, but make sure you don't put the blame on your previous company nor onto yourself.
These are just few questions that can be asked during an Interview ,but the list is exhaustive. So be prepared to answer any question with confidence. But , Never ever get tensed – It pulls your confidence down & will throw you out of the competition.
